“The Serenity Hill Secret Is Out”…
Old Chatham, NY-October 11 , 2007- Many have driven on Rte 66 and have seen the farm way up on the hill top, in the heart of Old Chatham, and many have had pleasure of being a part of the great experience Serenity Hill Farm has to offer. But the question always has been “who is up there?” “And what is going on up on that hill?” Well, the answer is simple…. Living life with the best of both worlds—horses and kids that love them!
While, being on one of the most beautiful hilltops in Old Chatham, NY with 360 degree views of rolling hills, and towns in the distance, you get have the experience of going back to nature and really enjoying the sport of horseback riding whether your young or old. Owners Kevin and Terri Anne Dougherty have spent the last year and half, upgrading and expanding the already “one of kind” equine facility, including the best part, a $125,000.00 indoor arena expansion. The facility houses 14 stalls, with state of the art amenities, but as well as extra conveniences for boarders, and students to have total comfort. “In this business, it’s tough to make it, rumors in a small community are always an issue of what is true and no matter how much you spend, you realistically can not accommodate everyone’s requests, but the simple fact is we are an exceptional facility that goes above and beyond basic boarding and lessons.” “We have been commended on our level of cleanliness, our specialized feeding programs for all horses, especially those that have special dietary/health issues and our fabulous amenities by area professionals and clients that come here weekly. They let us know that providing the extra comforts like laundry service, refreshments and snacks, it really makes a difference to them with their busy lifestyles, especially when they have children.” states, Christie Hugabone, Stable Manager.
In addition to their existing programs which include a “Confidence Building Program”, Serenity Hill has begun an “After School Riding Program” for children age 5 and up. They offer children at levels of beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons for dressage, hunter/jumper and recreational riding. Children can come to the farm and get ready for lessons and just “be kids”, while enjoying the company of their friends and “horsing around” in the barn. “ It brings me great happiness to see their little faces grinning ear to ear with excitement when they pull out their favorite pony for a lesson…the kids are why we built this place and thats what makes it all worth it!” says, Terri Anne Dougherty, owner of Serenity Hill Farm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Cause for Celebration”
OLD CHATHAM, NY-December 11, 2007- On Sunday December 9th, 2007 up on the hill at Serenity Hill Farm, the horses were trotting not for lessons… but for a great cause. Their “mane” point? To bring the community together to help those in need this Holiday Season. Serenity Hill Farm and their After School Riding Program hosted a “Toys for Trots” Holiday Pageant to support the national Toys for Tots organization and help those in Columbia County. Family, friends, and locals attending were asked to donate a new unwrapped toy as admission to the show while enjoying warm cocoa and sweet delectable homemade goodies by the parents and students of the riding program.
For the past eight weeks, Instructor Mary E. Hogencamp, a retired, Captain of the NYS Police, trained the students and horses for many hours and all the hard work paid off! Not only did the audience enjoy quadrille riding to Holiday music, old fashioned, narrated Christmas stories, and the cutest elves in Santa’s workshop, but they also came through at the finale with a total of over forty new toys and $150.00 in cash donations. “This was the most fun I have ever had! The kids were absolutely phenomenal in their performances and the support I received from the parents, the Old Chatham Pony Club, and the local businesses such as C &K Tack is what made this a success! Now there will be more than forty more kids in the community who will get a shiny new toy, but also be given some hope on Christmas morning.” “ For me, Christmas is about “the kids.” Says Terri Anne Dougherty, Owner of Serenity Hill Farm.
Even though the Pageant is over, those who wish to donate to Toys for Tots can do so by visiting their website,
www.toysfortots.org to find a collection site.
